Thanks, I’m fine. the flooding is in the other part of the state–where Randy lives. Randy, you okay?
And everyone else in the flood zone. It’s bigger than just Pennsylvania.
But since when is Washington, D.C., part of “the northeast?” Don’t any of these so-called journalists remember geography? Yeah, it’s northeast of Texas and Atlanta, but to me those were always the “mid-Atlantic states.” Right now, a lot of people think they actually are in the middle of the Atlantic.
here in binghamton area of ny, major flooding in many towns, the susquehanna river is expected to crest later tonight, a little east of here the delaware will also crest around 11 o’clock. most highways closed, 5 counties in state of emergency. it’s a mess. the railroads (CP/NS) must be under water, haven’t heard a train since last night,
Heyas,
Any word how the Huntingdon / Lewistown area is faring?
They have ordered the evacuation of 150,000 people along the Susquahanna river today, and more rains are due.
Mr.B You read my mind, every time I hear the news and they call everythging from Washington D.C. to Maine the Northeast, I’d like to shout at them, in fact I do, but the TV doesn’t talk back. Those states, Maryland, D.C. NJ, etc, are part of the MIDDLE ATLANTIC states. Everyone who wasn’t asleep in Geography class knows that. Ohhhh, you younguns never heard of “Geography”? It is called " Social Studies" in todays modern schools.
BTW Mr. B, I made it to Maine Trains in South Chelmsford last week, George has a nice little store there. What impressed me was that it very neat. I bought 4 cars and the new Spectrum 0-8-0. I see his layout was in this month’s Model Craftsman also!!
We got slammed here in NE PA. My front yard looked like a river this morning. [:O] Fortunately, very little in the basement.
My area of South Jersey faired well this time around. Of course the Delaware River would have to crest about 300 feet to get to my front door.
Two years ago we had a major downpour, 25 inches in three hours and we got flooded. Medford Lakes is now just Medford Streams.
Eastern Michigan is getting hit fairly hard, although its not as hard as the as the Mid atlantic states. Our problem is it keeps blowing from the east, off the lake. We always get bad storms when that happens. Although so far they only had to close 2 low laying streets becuase the storm drains clogged with debries
Certainly all our best wishes are with you guys.
Glad to hear from Chip. but if my Geography is correct I am also worried about Randy R.
Please keep us informed down here in the South.
Geography was never my strong suit, but I am still delighted to hear that everyone is okay…if for the moment. I hope Randy is okay.
My wife and I slogged sand bags during the Red River flood in ND and on up to Winnipeg in 97. We felt terrible for those whose lives were severely impacted. It was heart-warming to see long lines of volunteers filling and swinging sandbags during those hard days in and around Winterpeg.
As Karl would intone, “BE SAFE!!”
Social studies? What’s that? Riiiight, they call that “Humanaties” here, and it’s combined with “Language Arts” nee “English”. Perhaps if they’d stop making classes longer (longest one is now 100 miutes…) and split up the subjects into more manageable chunks, we could actually get some hope for the continent’s future…[/rant]
I sincerely hope that all the people (and shortlines(especially the MD&DE)) will make a quick recovery after the floods are over.
Are you kiddin’ we have dolts who think Pittsburgh is part of the midwest. Somewhere a bunch of geography teachers are commiting suicide.
[banghead]
Compared to Indiana, PA you are in another time zone. (Or maybe we’re in a time warp.)
My basement in South Jersey across the Delaware is still bone dry - haven’t heard water trickling into the sump at all. Some of the main roads are closed for flooding under overpasses and what-not, though.
Fine here, I live on top of a hill, plus much of the rain bypassed me. Easton is flooded, highest since the '55 flood (worse then Agnes in 72), Reading is flooded, and up north in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area it’s pretty bad. Stopped raining yesterday mornign but the rivers didn’t crest til after midnight last night.

Here in Pottsville, things are starting to look normal, but there’s a lot of damage hidden in basements and low-lying areas and the cleanup will undoubtedly expose more damage. Port Carbon, just outside Pottsville, was evacuated and pretty much inundated. A 50x30 ft (deep) sinkhole opened up between Frackville and Shenandoah that swallowed 2 cars – most likely due to the area being so undermined. And the stories go on and on……around here you’re hearing comparisons to Agnes in 1972.
Like many other places, the people around here are pretty tough and will bounce back
I just realized - the new Yuengling Brewery facility is located in Port Carbon - there may be a temporary interruption of production!!
As long as the R&N can get through to switch the plant, we’ll have our beer!
Just think, plenty of fresh water filtered through coal mine tailings to produce new batches of beer!

Glad to hear from the area.
Speaking of LOST! Did you know that to go from South Carolina to Niagra Falls you can ALSO stop at the Grans Canyon on the way!!
Do not ask wjere I heard that one. Just say that the future is not as good as we hoped! (this was a teacher!)[:(]
