Speaker cavity dimension

HI, I have a early model HO Kato SD40-2 and I would like to install the speaker in
the Fuel Tank like the later model HO Kato SD40-2 mid.production. What i,m looking for is the size
of the speaker cavity. Diameter and depth. Thanks

There is plenty of room for a 16x36mm speaker/baffle in the long hood above the rear truck. Speakers in fuel tanks are just asking for trouble. They will pick up anything magnetic off the layout…and end up on the speaker cone. Stuff on speaker cone=distortion. In short, the sound will get worse…and worse…and worse…

I’ve put sound into two of those and agree with David M. Bedard – don’t put the speaker on the bottom. There’s room in the rear of the shell for an oval speaker and enclosure.

16x34mm speaker/baffle. You can get it from Soundtraxx, Tony’s Trains…pretty much anywhere. The next step up (20mmx40mm) will NOT fit.
