For some reason or other I decided that my double track Nscale Fremo America-N modules have the Sand Hills of Nebraska as a prototype. What is the colour of sand in that area? What is a good medium to model sand? Ordinary sand seems too coarse.

A warm brown. I wouldn’t cover the scenery with sand per se. I would mix ordinary sand into the regular dirt material, to reflect the larger rocks mixed in with the sand. Most of teh sand hills are grass covered.

I use really fine silt for my sand in HO. A little hard to work with but looks good when dry. I get it from work out of the pond washings from the gravel plant. It is the same color as our sand and gravel.
