Special Offer for Forum Members?

More like a special annoyance.

Is anyone else having trouble with a pop-up from the forum. It is Orange and a special offer to renew MR at a special rate plus getting “Seven railroads you can model”.

I have pop-ups blocked and still get this. The real issue is that it won’t go away. There seems to be no way to close the stupid thing. It blocks about 1/4 the screen so I can’t read the messages. Having a hard time writting this one because my typing is under the message.

Come on now - I already have a subscription through 2014. One would think that is far enough in advance that I shouldn’t have to deal with this really ANNOYING message.

How does everyone else deal with it, or am I the only one getting it all the time?

TZ,

So, there is no “X” in the upper right hand corner of the popup ad box? For me the “X” does NOT come up immediately with the ad and takes about 5 seconds for the whole thing to load before I can close it out.

If you can’t close it out at all, I would go ahead and contact Customer Service about it. I will also mention it to the IT department.

Tom

I see it once a day or maybe two when I first come in. My box has an X to click, don’t know where yours went. But no big deal to me, click the X and go on my way.

Bob

In the upper right of the pop up is an X and the word Close. It should be obvious. Standard procedure for most Window pop ups and applications will at least be a X in the upper right corner.

I only get the pop up if I cleared all the Cookies in the PC. Otherwise, I can surf the web all day and come back to one of the Model Railroad forums and not get a pop up if I do not clear the cookies.

Rich

Sometimes blindly click an upper-righthand X on a pop up will cause undesirable results such as a trojan or spyware.

Tom:

I’d like to air my complaint with this one more time in the hopes that someone will pay attention.

The pop-up does not, I repeat does not stay up long enough for me to even see that there is an “X” in the corner. The darn thing flashes so fast that there is not enough time to react, other than to be annoyed. Every time I open a thread it flashes, and every time I open another thread it flashes.

And for those of you who are trying to be helpful, I appreciate that. But this is not a problem with either my browser, the browser settings, nor my cookies (Oreo or Girl Scout). And how do I know this? Because when I go to the Trains forum there is a similar pop-up that comes up only once and does not reappear once it is closed.

So the only thing I can conclude is that there is some sort of difference between the two forum sites.

Anything that you can do to pass this along would be appreciated.

Thanks

No, here is how the special offer works. It keeps popping up until the forum member get the subscription, even if he already has one.

Forgot to mention, I use Firefox 3.0.14 Browser.

Rich

I do have a blocker in place and yet this annoying pop up form MR persists. In my case it is more or less a slow flash between screens as I change from item to item.

Very annoying, I also find that I end up with four or five tabs open as well.

It may be enough to let my subscription run out when the time comes…

Fix the pop up or get rid of it.

I know this is going to get locked. I sent in several letters to customer service and have yet to recieve a reply on the fix. I know folks are getting tired of pop threads but at least they are only once a week. trying seeing the pop up evertime you click. My earlier post from last week and nothing has changed

Orange pop up at opening click discussion forum - orange pop up click WPF - orange pop up click page 2 - orange pop up click back to discussion forum - orange pop up click next thread - orange pop up click back to the main forum - orange pop up click layout forum - orange pop up

Install the Adblock Plus application and you won’t get them at all.

Since I get the forum for free and also pay for my MRR each month I couldn’t care less how many pop-ups you switch on. I can’t complain. It’s your forum, so do what you want. If I am not paying for it why would I have the gull to complain. I see it maybe once every 5th sign-on. I simply click on the x to get rid of it. That’s it.

Mike

I am getting the Flashie Thingie about 6 times a day, then it goes away. Still not happy about it, but I do like the site.

I really wish that some folks would take a moment to read what some of the issues really are. If the thing is flashing on the screen multiple times and disappearing, and there is no “X” to get rid of it, then it is not advertising. It is annoying.

That said, it seems that at this moment in time whatever was going on has been corrected. There was only one pop-up, and it did not reoccur after I X’d it closed.

So, to whomever the person is that fixed this, Thanks.

I did read it. And although I never saw the screen you are talking about it doesn’t matter. If you are getting a screen that flashes blue, spins in circles, and blinks for 5 minutes IT’S THERE FORUM. Anything like that is up to them. If you don’t like it then visit another forum. I am not being rude, it’s a simple fact. YOU DON"T PAY FOR THIS. I will apoligize on a special topic if you can email me a copy of the monthly bill you pay for the forum to run. Not the monthly MRR subscription. That’s paying something for something. You are getting something for NOTHING.

PLEASE PROOVE ME WRONG

Mike

Nothing like annoying your customers to get them to buy your latest product!

Well, if the screen flashed blue, spun around and blinked for 5 minutes, then I think MR would want to know about it, because something is wrong. I really doubt they put the pop up on there to annoy people. It works for some people, but others are having problems, so I think MR would appreciate knowing about it.

Tom

This is far from the first thread of people complaining about this overlay ad. Clearly they don’t care that it annoys us.

An ad like the Trainworld ad right beside the window in which I am typing would be far less intrusive, but some computer geek thinks the overlay is more fun. He’s probably laughing at all the commotion it has created.

Yep, I never see them either.

Enjoy

Paul

Well as one those that seemed to have the worst, I am pleased to report that since my last post on this and last e mail I sent to customer service, the nasty pop up is GONEEEEE!

It was a real pain seeing it every single click. I’ll give it until the morning and if it’s still gone I 'll call in my renewal

Thank you for removing it
