Spectrum 2-8-0 belt

I have been watching a discussion in the Bachmann forums concerning one fellow who has a Spectrum Connie that had a frayed drive belt. He included pictures also.

The belt for the 2-10-0 is the same size. The belt for the 2-8-0 is not available separately. You have to buy the complete mechanism.

You can buy the drive belt for the 2-10-0 by itself. Both locos use the same belt.

Call Bachmann on the phone. They have always been helpful and you can also order the part from them.

This thread is not about me. Never said it was. I am just informing others who may need the belt replaced.

Bachmann will try to sell you the 2-8-0 mechanism.

I do not have the 2-8-0.

Rich

I went through this same belt problem with my 2-8-0 around 8 years ago. Just make sure it is not the belt for the 4-8-2. Bachmann sent me one of those and it did not fit.

Ok, this is NOT my loco. I do not have the 2-8-0 or 2-10-0. I am only the messenger.

Here is a photo of the old 2-8-0 belt and the new 2-10-0 belt. Part number for the 2-10-0 belt is:

TRAIN-00036

Again, this is NOT my loco. I found this at the Bachamnn forums. Someone asked about this 2-8-0 belt sometime ago. This is just info for the Spectrum users. The person who did the repair said the loco is running nice and quiet.

Rich

Unless the one with the dead belt has LOTS of use - I’d inspect the pulleys for flash that might chew up a new belt.

Forgot to mention, the loco is a few years old and high mileage. He runs it a lot. No detail on where he runs the loco.

He did say he read a couple articles in B&O Modeler where someone did a similar repair.

I understand the 2-8-0 is very popular and some run them quite a lot.

Rich

Well, in that case it may have simply worn out from use. I mentioned that because theoretically it should last a long time, it’s not under that much stress and if it breaks on a realtively new loco there may be some reason for it, which would be frustrating if you replaced it and a month or so later the same thing happened again.
