Just purchased some post war PRR passenger cars that have couplers that turn with with the wheels but are not attached to the trucks. They have a pt of up and down play causing alignment while runing problems. What is the fix for replacement? Also how does the car come apart for internal fixes?
Hi! garysea, I also have a set of these very same passenger cars.
Okay, to access the interior, lift very carefully on the roof section on both sides, and the roof of the cars slides up and away. PS-If you can just get the edge of your fingernails under the roof, then pull up gently.
Mine are lighted , and you have to be very careful when taking the tops of the cars off because the electrical connectors ( if you have lights) is very delicate, and hooks over the sides of the clear plastic window assembly.
Inside on both ends is a mechanical linkage that links the trucks with the couplers, causing them to turn with the trucks.
Mine are fastened down with small phillips head screws as is the passenger floor also.
Good luck!
Trying to get my HO layout underway. My job and life have got in the way lately.

I would like to thank you for your very informative reply. This was my first post and I was like a"kid" waiting for someone to respond. The couplers are drooping and am wondering if they need to be replaced completely or is ther are company like KDEE that has a package to do the job.
Thanks!
I have 12 of these cars for 2 different roads and I have the same problem. The couplers are attached to my cars by a melted “rivit” through the mechanical linkage. I have seen others that have fixed the coupler boxes to the body of the cars but that will limit the raduis that the car can be used on. As built from the factory the cars can handle 18" raduis (tho it dont look very good) but after fixing the couplers makes the minimum raduis about 24" but it may be even greater than that. Unfortunatly I dont have a fix for the couplers because I have not tried fixing mine yet.
Put on Kadee #118 shelf couplers.
