HELP! I got a Shay from a friend. Beautiful engine. Works on DC layout, and on the DCC test track, it responds to 00 (default for DC locomotives). but if I put it on the main layout, it shorts the track. The digitraxx server sits and chrips like it does if one derails on a switch and it all stops. Nobody was running so we couldn’t test that, but the engine l;ights would flicker and it would occasionally lurch. And to top it all off, the Bachmann site is down. I do plan on putiing a SOundtraxx decoder in it eventually, maybe that will kill the issue. But in the meantime, can anyone shed some light?
I have the same prblem, sent mine back to Bachman and they sent me a new one. It runs great on dc but shorts on dcc. Wish I could help but I am looking far a solution also.
So, here is an odd twist…Or maybe the same scenario? Not sure if I’m reading the post correctly.
I too have a Bachmann Shay and first ran it on my DCC (old Digitrax BigBoy) pike with out a decoder installed in the 00, DC mode. It ran great at first, but then would short out. I have an “auto re-set” Power Manager so it would lurch along with no rhyme or reason.
I installed a decoder and it has rum flawlessly since. I have NO idea what was going on and was going to send it back to Bachmann, but thought I would try the install (after all it is a plug & play situation) first to see if it made a difference. It did!
Go figure??!!??
