I presume this is using real time seconds. What happens when a "fast clock " is used?
Don’t use a fast clock…use the clock on your wrist…if you have no such clock on your wrist, then use the one on your PC (double click the time in your system tray).

Find the speed in HO for MPH by:
inches(train travels)/seconds X 5.5

I have purchased and installed a scale train speedometer. Saw it advertised in MR so I bought one. Relatively cheap ($50) and simple install and it cuts out all of the guess work and calculations for speed. Aparently it works for all scales but I have it setup for my HO layout. You should look into it if speed is that critical in your operation.
