Good morining all. Hope you had a great Christmas.
I have 3 Atlas GP 40-2 Gold locomotives and 1 Proto GP-7 with DCC and sound (HO scale). I use a MRC Prodigy express system, but also have the Prodigy Advance handheld (not the squared).
I read the Start Voltage, Accelaration, deceleration and TV? (top voltage) off the the Atlas locomotives. I then entered the same numbers into the Proto GP-7. At slow speeds they all run at the same speed, but once I increase the throttle the Atlas locomotives speed up faster than the Proto. My question is this: Are there some other CV’s I need to look at to help me match the speed at a higher throttle setting? Appreciate any help with this.
Mike
Here is how it is done.
-
Pick one locomotive. This will be the ‘golden’ locomotive.
-
Place it on the track, and adjust CV 2 until the unit just creeps when you give it throttle step 1.
-
Set the top end to your liking (Cv5) and when you like it, set CV6 to be half of Cv5. This loco is finished.
-
Place another loco on the track. Again, set CV2 so the unit creeps. Keep in mind on some units this number will be small (sometimes 0) and others it can be large (I have had Athearns in the 60 range).
-
Consist the 2 units and adjust the CV5 with the new loco until they both have he same top end. Keep in mind that you will have to go beyond 50% throttle before CV 5 can be measured (CV6 controls up to 50% throttle).
-
When the top end matches, then set CV6 to be half of 5.
-
Repeat with other locos.
-
Finally set Momentum (Cvs 3 and 4) to your liking. Because they use the same decoder, this value should be the same for all units. If you use another MFG’s decoder, the is value WILL be different.
Because you mentioned that you were able to program CVs already, I didnt talk about Paged and Ops mode programming.
Hope this helps.

David,
Thanks!! This was the advice I was looking for.
Mike
Remember…
Creep…Top…Mid…Momentum.
That way they all start at speed step one, have the same top and mid range and then move at the same time.
