speed meters for model railroad

Has any one seen or have knoledge of any one making speed meters,or if any one has published an artical on building such an item. I have been volenteered to reserch this possibility for our club layout. Altho I would recommend doing some modifications. I plan on making one of these in the future, but taking the Speedometer apart and molding it into the top of a box car or something.
