I can just hear the gufaws, raised eyebrows, the LOLs and my ears burning over this one.
And no I’m not an anal retentive when it comes to proper grammer. However I do try to spell correctly to avoid the odd occassional quip and yes I as we all do invariably make mistakes when spelling stuff out. but seriously I know I would benifit from a spell check option if it was available here or should I be worried or concerned?

I do my best in writing but it has been over 30 years that I had my last classes in english (UK english)
I have gone so far as to write up a post in a word processor for the spell check option and cut and paste here. However this seems to screw up the sentance and paragraph structure. One draw back to a spell checker is that you have to get somewhat close to the word for them to work. I think if folks would just read over what they’ve written, this would bring about a dramatic improvement!
After seeing some of the posts on this board, I think spell check should be mandatory, not optional!! It would save me a lot of time when I don’t have to decipher exactly what the poster is trying to say!

Lupo, I can understand how you have the added pressure of english not being your first language, I think you do very well.
Deschane, I’ve thought about writing on wordpad for that reason, but have opted for the simple reread method. Though I occcasionally miss something, I do keep an old fashioned dictionary by my side.[:D]
88gta350, I’ve read a few of the ones that you’re talking about, and sometimes I wonder if there are people out there that would respond, but are too embarassed by their language skills. Unfortunately, I haven’t run across a grammer checker yet.

There are too many words unique to the hobby for a spell check to really be feasible. When I was teaching Army counterintelligence agents, we gave them notebook computers with MS Word and encouraged them to use spell check because they were docked 1 point for each misspelled word in their reports; however, so many terms and words unique to the counterintelligence field needed to be added to the spell check dictionaries that it turned out to be a major hassle.

and download IeSpell. It installs in the button bar and does a great job of spell checking your posts and responses in forums like this and others.
I don’t really care whether or not someone can spell BUT…It makes searches much more productive and fruitful if the poster spells correctly the word which you are seeking…Now if only they made IEGrammer[:)]

The forum doesn’t need one, I use the ispell checker as well and it works across all forums I am active in. In fact, I’ve learned to prefer it than what comes with MS Word. And what’s even better for us Canadians is you can chose the Canadian option and not live with the American spelling of things.
