Doctor in the house!
Have fun! [:D]
The first Doctor I ever saw (and still my favorite!) Is the TARDIS the one sold in bookshops in the little box? I have one on my desk at work, and going to get one for my layout!
Is The Fourth Doctor a custom figure?
Ol’ Tom’s the first Doctor Who we saw as well. It was around 1981 or '82, Channel 9, WOR out of New York was showing it on Saturday mornings. Lady Firestorm had gotten up before I did, had turned on the TV and there it was.
She ran into the bedroom and shook me awake! “You have GOT to see this!” she said.
It didn’t last too long on commercial TV, but our local PBS station picked it up and needless to say we were hooked!
Yes, the TARDIS is the Running Press model: http://www.runningpress.com/book/doctor-who-light-up-tardis-kit/9780762449309
I bought mine at Books-A-Million. Size-wise, the model is more like 1:32 which would put it in the Standard Gauge realm rather than the O scale universe. But I’ve been using 1:32 (54mm) figures on my Christmas layout for years so it will fit right in.
Yeah, they’re a bit large and ludicrous with postwar O and S gauge equipment (or 1:50 scale fire engines) but they give the Lionel gateman someone closer to his own size to play with. [swg]
So, little Tom there started life as a 54mm gunslinger! 54mm is the traditional size for those plastic toy soldiers we all know so well. He was the exact same mold of figure as the guy in the blue jacket (facing away from the camera) that you see behind the scouts in this photo:
What I did was, I first extended the waist length jacket by building it up accross the bottom with my favorite substance: hot glue! [:D] I worked it on down, waiting for each “row” of glue to cool, till the coat was knee length and I also blended it upward
Penny-
You did an amazing job on the figure! I actually had no idea you made it yourself (and did a lot of amazing work on it, to boot!)
It actually reminds me of something Dapol would make in a smaller size, or Subbuteo (the UK brand of mainly Soccer or Rugby figures) would have had out at some point! It’s incredible!
I love how you set it in the last photo to look like Tom Baker holding it! Looks like packaging for the figure, too!
And now he has more than a barren landscape around him:
Strangest thing, every time I see “SPF 11-5” the first thing I think of is sunblock…
I thought the exact same thing!
I still don’t see the connection.
Sunday Photo Fun? [;)]
Depends on the beach…
Of course!
I’m no Monk!
