Spielberg inspired by Lionel Trains

While accepting his award, he mentioned that it was his Lionel Train set in 1952 that caused him to start his carreer in filmaking. He liked to crash his trains, but his father warned him not to do that, so he secretly filmed a crash so he could watch it over and over again without actually running the trains.

I saw that…he is a guy who could pump some money into the hobby!

Was this from this year or a few years ago? What award show was it?

Thanks for the link. Someone on OGR posted a link to the Train Wreck video.

Unfortunately that is not a good link. I tried searching google for it, but could not find it. I would ask over at OGR, but I am not yet a member there.

From the Greatest Show on Earth…

Thanks Wes. The broken link I posted earlier was, according to a followup by the original poster: “Oops. The link WAS the AP news article that I pulled the quoted text from”, and not a clip of the original 8mm 1952 video. That would be neat to see.

The Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Circus Train in “The Greatest Show on Earth” are very close to the models offered in the 2008 K-Line by Lionel Catalogs.

The History Channel series “Extreme Trains” had a recent episode about the current operations of the Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Circus Trains.

Lionel excecutives or even Neil Young need to show Steven Speilberg the new K-Line Circus Trains in operation on a layout somewhere.
