Do the standard ME 0.25" spikes work with code 55 and 40 rail? I remember hearing somewhere that the base of the rail was too small for the spikes to adequately grab onto; which doesnt seem like it would be much of a problem as long as the rail is spiked on both sides at the spike points, and maybe a PC board tie or 2 are thrown in where needed. Has anyone had any problems spiking code 55 and/or 40 rail?
I did some code 55 hand-laid track back in the 80’s. The flanges would clear the spikes OK, but for code 40, I would go with PC board ties about every 4 to 6 inches, or glue the rail down with Walthers Goo.
