Spiking into Cork

Has anyone ever tried handlaying track on Cork Roadbed - with spikes (as opposed to soldering)?

In the project layout currently in MR, the guy is using that foam roadbed, but then has to anchor into the subroadbed on occasion. I can’t imagine that trackwork lasting forever.

Has anyone ever spiked (only) into cork roadbed? - not into the subroadbed?

Cork doesn’t have the density to hold spikes, Homasote does. You will be splitting ties on most tries with cork because it will compress as you try to drive them in.
