Spokane to Whitefish

Hi all, Does anyone know if the stretch of BNSF tracks between Spokane Wash and Whitefish Mont has a division name? Also, is it along this line that the Cascade tunnel is located, and if so, were along the line is it. Cheers, Anthony.

The large tunnel between Spokane and Whitefish is the Flathead Tunnel, which was built by the Army Corps of Engineers, so that they could build a Dam on the Columbia River which the GN had been following. The Cascade Tunnel is between Spokane and Seattle, More specifically between Skykomish and Wenatchee, which you should be able to find on maps. Flathead Tunnel is about one-tenth of a mile shorter than Cascade Tunnel.

I think the line west of Whitefish to Spokane is the Kootenai River Subdivision.

I’m sure you meant “Dam on the Kootenai River.” (Libby Dam)

Correct the Libby Dam is on the Kootenai River a tributary to the Columbia River.

Line Segment 36 ; Washington Division; Kootenai River SubDivision (Whitefish MT to Sandpoint ID)

Line Segments 45 & 47 : Washington Division; Pend Oreille SubDivision (Sandpoint, ID to Lakeside Jcn/W Spokane)
