spray paint that won't melt foam

I am going to be using some of the spray foam in a can around my WS risers and was told to use a spray paint that won’t melt the foam. Model masters was recommended, I tried AC Moore and Michael’s with no luck. Does anyone know what Home Dept or Lowe’s sells that would be safe to use on foam

I assume that you are talking about a spray can product, not something that you would use in an airbrush.

I think you need to look for something called acrylic latex spray paint. Krylon makes such a product and you should be able to find it at Home Depot, Lowes, and probably at your neighborhood hardware store. Here’s a link to a site describing one flavor of the Krylon product: http://www.krylon.com/environment/h20/. There are probably similar store brands of this stuff.

Model Master paint is made by Testors, here is the link:

I’m not sure about melting foam or not but they have different types of paint from Enamels to Acrylics.

An acrylic should do.

Best thing to do is to put some of your foam ddown and spray some paint on it. Some paints seem to effect foam more than others.

When I wanted to use a rattle can of textured paint I found it effected the foam a little. What I did was take some cheap latex (I used my earth color) paint. Painted the area with a diluted coat of that then used the rattle can and it did not effect the foam at all.

Good luck,

Richard

At the advice of a forum poster some time ago I bought a couple of cans of the Krylon H2O Latex spray can paint – in two colors, 2622 Seaweed and 2608 Javae Sea Brown. The stuff does indeed clean up with water, has very little odor, and dries fairly fast. And the two colors are appropriate for scenery base. They adhere fairly well to both plastic/foam and to plywood although sometimes they adhere in unpredictable and irregular ways. What I cannot say is whether they cover other colors well. That I have not yet tried.

Unfortunately they also both have a gloss so they are not suited to all the application I had hoped to make for them. If there was a matte finish version I would investigate.

They definitely did not attack the foam in any way.
