Spreading ballast

While spreading ballast this afternoon using my trusty old honey bottle, I was wondering what other people use. So what do you use to spread ballast?

I use a small paper cup to apply it and a 1/4 inch camel hair brush to spread it.

I use a plastic mustard bottle and a foam brush cut to fit between the rails. I’ve found that I can get better control of the ballast grains with the foam brush versus a bristle brush.

A plastic spoon, the container the ballast comes in, a paintbrush and my finger.

Me too. I squish the cup into a narrow V-shaped spout.

I’m not sure about Larry’s solution. I think it’s, er, bearly useful! [(-D]

Ditto. But I think I like the foam brush cut to fit idea and will try it next time.
