Springfield Mass Union Station Pictures

The October 2009 issue of Model Railroader has two articles on modeling and detailing station scenes. I recently had the opportunity to photograph Union Station (now the Amtrak Station) in Springfield, Mass. I have posted a photo gallery of the platform images on my CT River Valley web site [follow this link]. The linked photos in the gallery range from 3 to 5+ MB in size.

I have also included photos of the track and of a CSOR freight and AMTRAK passenger cars.

The photos may be downloaded for personal use. Please ask for permission if you want to post them elsewhere or use them for commercial purposes. Thanks.

I posted a similar item in the Layout Scenery Forum.

Is any of the original lowert level station still in use, or is it all blown away with external steps up to the platforms?

I have recollections of waiting with my Mom and sister in the station itself waiting for the train to go to New York and Filthydelphia, but that must be at least 50 years ago.

Part of the lower level (southside) is used as a police station and entry point for the stair case and elevator. The remaining parts of the station still exist but are closed off.

Plans are afoot to renovate and replace parts of the station to bring it into the 21st century [see article]
