SS RAIL SIZE

I have a ton of it in Reno but I’m housebound in Ca. I need the top of rail to top of tie and the tie thickness. so I can plan on a walk on track section.

Thanks, Dave

You perhaps ought to check out the walk on sections offered by Split Jaw. I looked at them at ECLSTS and thought about how nice they would work in to either a wood/trex deck or cast into a concrete walkway.

They would also be perfect for crossing a driveway! I wouldn’t be afraid to have an oil truck drive over them if properly supported in the drive.

Costly, yes; but I think worth it as they appear vastly superior to any other product I’ve seen for that use!

Thank’s for your input but. I should have added the plan call’s for a smoth transition from patio to a walkway out into the garden. I plan on using a 2X12X3-4ft presser treated for the transition. this section along wtith the rest of the Out iN Back Railway (ONBR) will be removed when my wife is old (that’s retirement age) and we sell this ,the small house. BTY the transsion will be back filled with so called 12x12 block. And she needs a smoth serface to walk on because of a bad leg. I can catch her now.

I would have to agree with Capt. on this one. Just make sure it is smooth transion (sp).

So can anyone mesure the toral track hight for me, in decimal form please, should be the same as brass.

Thank you

Alas. Nobody’s going to tell you it’s .332 inches.

You ask a simple question[oX)]

I do see one problem with your question: “Who makes it???” If it is Sunset Valley SS track, then it will be about .250. G-Scale track comes in three heights, which is probable known, .215, .250, .332(LGB). And since there are no standards, each maker comes up with their own.

Not to make this any harder but the original question included tie’s. so far I have half the ansure .332. the maker is aristo SS. BTY I would not be asking for this info if I had section of track in front of me It’s all in Reno 198miles away.

Oh. I thought you asked for the distance from the tie to the top of the rail. Let’s see… I don’t have a caliper here, but it looks mighty close to 7/16.

I have caliper in Reno would you like to borrow it?

The rail height of the AristoCraft stainless steel track I have is 0.338 inches.

I get mixed readings of .293 to .304 on the crossties themselves.

Hope this helps answer your question.

I went to Reno last weekend and returned with some track now all I need to do is start laying track on the Out iN Back Railway ( ONBR). Thanks for all the inputs.
