Makes the CharlieCard, introduced on the T some years ago, seem almost quaint. The T also has mobile passes but not for subway or buses, so a ways to go there.
Meanwhile, MetrLink must enhance security on its light rail vehicles to protect passengers. A gentleman was harassed and assaulted by a gang of three men last week on board one of its trains.
The story mentions real-time location information, trip planning, stop locations, rider alerts - but nothing about mobile ticketing, as the headline states. I’m eager for a similar technology to be available later this year to light rail riders in Pittsburgh (where transit is still very safe).
A MetroLink light rail train heads to Lambert Airport in East St. Louis, Ill…Lambert Field is not in East St. Louis. It is located in unincorporated St. Louis County, Mo. 10 miles northwest of St. Louis, Missouri.
They have shot two folks on the platforms at two of the metro stops in St. Louis within the last two weeks. Also since Metrolink has gone in there have been numerous crimes in and around many of the stops.
St. Louis Metro is appears to be averaging two to three people shot or killed each day.
