Trains running on the old “kirkwood cutoff” or even any history about it? I grew up by this line and its been gone for 10 years now. [:(] Also there is an ex BNSF line that runs right through the heart of Clayton all the way up through North County. When was this line abandonded and when did they remove these tracks? Any info on either line would be great I have been looking for a long time and cant seem to find any. Thanks[8D]
The ex BNSF line you speak of is the former TRRA Central Belt actually. It runs from BN’s Lindenwood Yard to just across the St Charles Rock Road. It interchanges with the TRRA North Belt in University City. Most of the tracks were abandoned over the last 15 years or so-various parts at a time. Most of the line is now being re-laid and will become part of the new Metrolink line. The southern end from U City to Lindenwood was taken out eons ago. If you can find a copy, I highly recommend The Train Watchers Guide to St Louis…even if you don’t go chasing trains, there are a lot of great historical facts in there. As for the Kirkwood Cutoff-Actual name was the Carondolet Sub-been gone for a number of years too, but still highly visable.
Where would I pick up a copy of that book?
Do you also know where the now UP line that crosses brentwood blvd. and runs all the way to manchester, ran? I know at Manchester the line has been pulled but you can clearly trace its roadbed all the way into ladue from there I dont know where the line ran…?? When was this taken up. Sorry so many questions I am just really fascinated with row’s in St. Louis. These are the ones I am most familiar with if you know of anymore tell me about them. Thanks
No one? [?]
The book was printed in 1983, I don’t know if you can still get it. As far as the UP line you refer to, I am not sure where this ran. You may ask your local hobby shop if they can get the book. I hope this helps.
