I can’t say about the NP steamers, but GN 400 is owned and maintained by the Great Northern Railway Historical Society, not the Minnesota Transportation Museum. The unit is housed in the Jackson Street roundhouse along with the GNRHS and Northern Pacific archives. As a GNRHS member I can safely say that “Hustle Muscle” is well cared for.
isn’t this the same group suposidly restoring northern pacific 4-6-0 328 and two northern pacific 4-6-2’s the site seems to be not up graded since 2013.
Hustle Muscle wasn’t the first SD45 As I recall, she was the first production model. But there was at least one prototype that preceded her that was constructed in 1965. She was sold to the Illinois Central afterwards (Their only SD45) and was scrapped in the late 1980’s.
Some beautiful photos of the event at https://www.facebook.com/GNRHS
not sure of the relevancy of this but:have a box of mostly Minnesota railroad memorabilia that someone can have if they want to pay the shipping(est $30) if interested leave a note here or call 575 496 6935 and leave a message.
Hi there James, I stumbled upon your comment and am wondering if your offer is still open? Our railroad museum in town would love to have your memorabilia! If still available, email me at yamahafreak (at) cfl.rr.com. I don’t have a way of seeing if new comments are posted here. Thank you!
