Staging Area OR ?

Another “just curious” question: When you want to change from a ‘freight’ to ‘passenger’ train or visa-versa, do have a staging area on the layout or do you just switch the cars with no fanfare (like taking them off a shelf or out of the closet/box)? Thanks.

Itake em off the shelf put the other one on the shelf then move em out.

Some GIZ, have em on sidings waiting to get hooked up, but I would need lots o space for that.

Well on my layout (coming soon), I’m going to have the main track go into a closet and back out again. Since I will be storing some of my trains in the closet, I suppose this track could be staging for this type of situation (changing from freight to passenger). You could either have that or a siding with the cars all ready to go, and all you have to do is switch them out. I’ve done that on my temporary layouts a lot of times. It only takes about seven 10" straight pieces to hold 5 traditional passenger coaches, with the possability of 6 (freight cars it can hold even more).
