I am attempting to build my first layout using the “N Scale That Grows” book as a guideline. Having finished the first stage I set my new life like sw8 on the rails and with a slight nudge it was moving on down the track round and round and through the turnouts amazingly everything worked. Until I stopped. The sw8 would not move unless I gave it a slight nudge. I have power to all four electrical blocks. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance…Don W.
Welcome to the forums!
Are your track and wheels clean? Sometimes mine will do as you have described, just can’t seem to get enough juice to get them started, but they will run. Since it runs alright once moving, I would say your wiring and track connections are not the problem. Next thing I would do is make sure your loco is properly lubricated. Could be it just isn’t free enough to start, but once moving it does OK. Hopefully your loco came with instructions on how to lubricate, just don’t overdo it.
Good luck,
Thanks for the info. I can’t believe I didn’t notice the instructions in the bottom of the box (well hidden). Will try the suggested break in method tomorrow. Thanks again.
When you lubricate the engine be sure you use grease and oil that are plastic compatible. Labelle makes a good variety. Your LHS should carry them.
