Staple end trucks???

I have a tank car #2546 with staple end trucks with coil couplers with the sliding shoe. I don’t use the coil couplers but I do like the car running with my 681. The wheels are so worn out that it falls of the switches when backing into the switch yard over the switch. The wheels have groves in them and are very loose on the axle. I would like to replace the wheels and axles part numbers TC-70 and TC-118.

The question is how do you get them apart? The staple ends, that is? Do you need a special tool?? Or would I be better off just replacing the whole truck?? With something magnetic?

I have the Greenberg repair book but don’t see any instruction on how to take it apart.

Just take a medium sized screwdriver and flex the sides out (wedge against the side of the wheel) and lift out one side, then pull out the other.

While you’re at it, you can put a standard magnet operated coupler on unless you are really interested in keeping the electro magnet type.

I do have a question. You said it was a 2546 tank car.

Is it possibly a 2465 two dome?
