Am I the only one to think that the use of gold stars is becoming devalued on the forum. Some forumites, not all, seem to be engaged in Star wars for example rewarding there friends and penalising there enemies is this what the system was meant for?

To be honest, the whole star thing seems really silly to me. I’ve been reading the forum for about a year and a half, and I didn’t even notice them until someone complained about them in the last week or two.
Now that I know they exist, I still don’t pay attention to them. I read topics if the title catches my interest. There are also certain posters who I generally don’t care for their posts, so if they start a topic, I just don’t read it.
It’s not a movie, it’s a post on a forum. Why do people want to rate them anyway?

wow…I have never paid ANY attention to them before! I dont even know what they are for…I guess I assumed they were for amount of replies or something…

Well I suppose the original intent was to flag up threads that were informative, innovative, creative …etc to other forum users. Thus using this criteria my post should really rate a big fat zero.
But I don’t think they are being used for that in some case’s which is a shame and reflects poorly on some users/posters. I notice the AGR forum does not highlight post rankings or use a star system and maybe its a better place for it.
Now I am new here so I don’t really want to rattle anyones cage but model/toy trains people are generally good people and maybe we should strive to reflect that in the forum and put aside petty differences.
divides number of stars by number of post so if you have 10 post and only 2 rate and both give it 5 I guess you get a 2 1/2 stars but for fun I’m giving 5 stars also so we’ll see what it becomes then
I have started threads here and there that have gotten the “Stars” next to them. If you ever met me in person you would notice I speak slower than others much of the time because of some health problems. I’m not good at delivering jokes (speaking them) so I really don’t try anymore . But on this site I think I have made people laugh now and then and it makes me feel a little better.
It’s funny, I never look at the stars either or don’t seem to notice 'em.
