I’m curious about the Red White and Blue Sate of Maine paint scheme used by the BAR. Was this used on reefers used in potato service? When did this paint scheme first appear? What types of cars were painted this way. Thanks for your input! David
David,
If you look back one page and refer to a post entitled “Billboard Reefers” which I originated on 19th. march this year, you will see a few replies about The Maine boxcars. You may find it adds to your enquiry.
Note the scheme was applied to some NYNH&H cars as well, the same scheme but different reporting marks and road name.
Funny, I thoght this might be a question on the “State of Maine” passenger train, and planned on providing the information that there was no paint scheme for this train. It used cars from the NYNH&H, B&M, and MC. and whatever color scheme those cars usually had was what was on this passenger train. During WWII this meant Pullman green for the sleepers, Hunter green for the NYNH&H coaches, and mixed red and green for both B&M and MC cars, more red for the former, and more green for the latter.
Thanks for that info Dave. Now I have a new train to model for my MEC layout! David
