How do you apply static grass? I was looking at a plastic container of Woodland Scenics static grass Saturday and all it said was to squeeze the container at some Scenic Glue, after I got home I read an article in MR where a $150.00 Noch static grass gun was used. How do achieve good results without spending $150.00, or can’t it be done?
The squeeze bottle with magnet is a little better than just dumping it in the glue. The Static Grass applicator ranges from very good to spectacular depending on practice and skill. I have learned to use the applicator to put grass on pine trees to get a really good fir tree and Christmas tree. I don’t know if it is worth $150 but you can do things with it that you can’t do any other way. However, many skilled people get good results without it. I like mine
One doesn’t HAVE to spend $150 on a static grass applicator…I built one from this article for about $5. That’s right, five hundred cents. Five dollars, U.S. currency.

And you know what? it works quite well! [:)]
It does, indeed.
Hi Mike,
I too am interested in getting some static grass on my layout and I stumbled across this youtube video of a guy making his own applicator. He uses a dollar store fly swatter and sieve to make one.

However, I can see that getting a good quality pre-built one might provide the most consistant application over the whole layout.
Has anyone invested in one of the expensive ones and is it worth it?

Here’s mine. Seven bucks to buy and seven minutes to build. Works great!

Thanks Darren,
So much to learn and I think I found the folks to teach me.
Ha thats perfect, I guess the main issue from the youtube video was the strength of the voltage. What batteries does this one take?
And what type of static grass do you typically use? Brand wise?
