Static Grass

I got a GrassTech applicator for a holiday gift. What is the prefered brand of static grass to use or are they all the same?

One brand is as good as another. Color and fiber length are usually the only charactistics to consider when choosing static grass. A very few products include additional texture with the fibers, but those are listed in the descriptions so you should know in advance before purchasing.

I use the Silflor static grass which I get from Scenic Express. I model in HO and I prefer the 4mm length. I have a variety of colors which I use in patches or blends to avoid uniformity.

Woodland Scenics only makes their static grass in 2mm length. I have some of that, too, but to me it comes out looking fuzzy rather than grassy.

Woodland scenics is good, but only comes in short lengths and doesnt look good to my eye if you put it on too thick. Noch comes in various lengths, but is harder to get and more expensive. I use mostly Silfor, generaly in mixed lengths for variety. However, some colors of Silfor look very plastic / artificial to me, so theres a trade-off. I seem to have the best results in mixing all 3 brands and being careful no to over apply short lengths.

Wait a minute, who was the person that gave you a static grass applicator for Christmas? How did they even know what it was.

Never underestimate the power of Saint Nick or Happy Harry the Hanuckah fairy; the force is strong with them.

For static grass, you also can use white glue to get them to staind up. I used that for taller grass and it worked quite well.
