Happy Memorial Day to all. A few years ago some mfr was making self-stick station edge treads (yellow as pictured below). Are they still made? Tried search on Walthers site, not sure of correct product name. Thanks
I’m not familiar with that, but Microscale has any number of yellow stripes as decals and also, I believe, full-colour sheets. Then there’s always yellow duct tape…
Ho Modern Modeler,
You can use,Automotive Pin-Striping tape.it is self stick,different widths and colors and a lot cheaper,than most Modeling,offerings…
Cheers,
Frank
Thank you, Randy
I have 40" on each side of the parallel platforms so for $12 per 16 inches I think I’m going to paint the edge and decal the stripe.
Thanks for the alternative ideas before and after this post.[8D]
I tried yellow electrical tape. I didn’t like it. Now I just use yellow paint.
Masking and painting w/ reefer yellow would give the best results, especially if there is any anti-skid tread molded into the platform. 3M Fineline tape works rather well in a situation like this, very crisp parting lines and will not have any bleed under
First, you must understand the platform. The train has a certain envelope (set of dimensions) that it must stay within. The Wayside has a certain envelope that it must stay out of.
Second, the only wayside that may exceed its envelope (but not to enter the equipment envelope) is the platform edge.
Third: The platform edge must be made of a SACRIFICIAL MATERIAL. This used to be wood, and thus I painted the edges of my platforms brown. Modern platforms, as you have shown have a plastic material that is yellow in color.
NOW The LION paints the tops of the platforms what ever sort of platform color is required, and him paints the edge either brown for an older platform or yellow for a newer platform, but LIONS have big furry paws and so paint goes all over the place. Him uses a 1/4 inch wide ribbon (buy it in the sewing section at Walmart). Run a bead of glue (Duco Cement works good unless you have a foam platform) along the edge, and then stretch and apply the ribbon to this glue. Your platform is finished.
Here is platform made of ceiling tiles turned upside down and under cut with a table saw to create the platform edge. You can see the yellow ribbon on the platform top.
More recently the LION has been experimenting with PRINTED platforms. Him would use brick stone or tile .bmps in his drawing program. These prints would include the painted edge, but not all of it. I still paint the platform edges. Use Silicone caulk to hold these down as other adhesives will destroy the integrity of the prints. Do the prints on heavy weight stock on a color laser printer, and if you have not one of these, have a local printer make them for you. LIONS do not like ink jet printers. Him chops the
