Station ?

Curious…How many passenger or freight stations do you have on your layout? How many station platforms and do your platforms service a single track or do they service a track along each side of the platform? As always, many thanks.

My new layout is still very under construction, with very few buildings on it. Those that are on it are for getting an idea of what will fit where.

My old layout had a plasticville suburban station, and Lionel 2133 lighted station. It also had a plasticville freight platform and two Lionel passenger platforms. One of the passenger platforms was between two tracks, but the tracks met at a switch 3 sections later. Both the passenger platforms were on an elevated point to point trolley line.

I guess I should add that my last layout was an L shaped 8x12 (2 sheets of plywood) with a 1x12 elevated trolley line. Certainly not the biggest of layouts.

I’m in the planning stage of my new layout at present my layou will be about 9’X12’ with a 3’X4’ cut out as you enter the room. (have to be able to open door and close it and open and close closet door lol) but I plan to make a loading and off loading passenger platform about 4’ long between 2 tracks as I will be running my 671RR or 681 with 6 PA. Passenger cars behind it on one track and my 2 Southern U36b’s with the 6 southern passengers cars behind them on the other in my make believe stop its where the south off load to the north and switch trains and yes for the chief its where the yankee’s off load to head into rebel territory I figure this station is somewhere around MD & VA area of the US lol. I guess I need to paint half of it grey and the other half blue lol right down the middle long ways . I guess I need two stations one at each end one for southerns and one for yankee’s

jwse30 and rtraincollector: Many thanks for your posts.

RT…didn’t Lionel make a jail for the Suthins? Better than a station. [:D]

Jack

RT, here is what you need to liven up that new layout.

Sorry for highjacking this thread but I couldn’t resist the temptation.

Perfect link, John, but the guys have to be disarmed somehow, now back to amputation thread. [:D]

There are seven passenger or freight stations on the layout. They include :

779 Drum loader

23796 Sawmill

766 Animated Station

755 Talking Station and the 789 Baggage Smasher

Two 586 Wayside Stations

I’ve got a 770 Baggage Platform but can’t figure where to put it, any suggestions?

Jim

Wow, Jim! What a set up! What are your board dimensions?

Jack

9.5’ x 6.5’, powered by a 300 watt 30B and a 17B 190 watt vintage transformers, here is the control panel

Jim

Jim,

Thats a nice control panel you built there!

Is that Oak with clearcoat or a light stain?

Did your inspiration come from the old model builder mags?

Jim: Thanks…Looks SO CLEAN. How do you keep it ‘dust-free’?

Minwax Golden Oak with a satin poly. I dust wth a swifler on an extendable pole. I also have a filter over the supply air duct and keep the door closed when possible.

Jim: The “Chief Engineer” wants to know if you make house calls. [;)]

Yes, and I do windows too. Forgot the third question. Inspiration was from an original American Flyer flyer.

I don’t have room to have an AF layout and a Lionel layout, but I always thought it would be neat to build an AF layout with a loop of AF’O’ track and one of ‘S’ track so I could run the similar 3/16th’s ‘O’ stuff alongside the ‘S’ stuff. I even wanted to put ‘O’ trucks on some ‘S’ cars to run in the ‘O’ trains. I am sure someone has done it.

I guess chief is the one on the strecher with the confederatte flag next to him

WHAT THE GUESTS LOOKED LIKE IN CHIEF’S YARD AFTER HIS JULY 4TH COOKOUT WHEN HE SERVED HIS MENU OF VARMINTS AND GRITS. TOO MANY LEAD PELLETS IN THE BBQ’D VARMINT, AND THE GRITS…THEY SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. [swg] WONDER IF HE REMOVED THE FUR.

Good question. I have three main lines, two interchange tracks, a small yard and a separate loop for trolleys. So it’s a bit of a miscellany.

The latter has a single stop. I turned around a Dickens Village building with an extended solid platform that looks like concrete I made from kid blocks for a small passenger station.

One interchange has two oil tanks and their assorted loading equipment. Basically it’s just to break up the scenery as the trolley loop is behind it. I sometimes park a tanker there.

There’s a factory ‘flat’ I made from a Plastiville airport hanger along one main line in one far corner.

A freight platform, water and coal stop and passenger ‘halt’ serve another main line.

A Marx station and Lionel platform serve another main line but at a junction.

I have a few HO size buildings along the far side of the layout to add the illusion of distance but I don’t stop at them.

Finally, in the front of the layout, there’s a major station made from a Plasticville school with platforms across all three main lines.

I have two, a Plastic Rico and a scratch built Kansas City Union Station still under construction.
