The sound cuts out because people don’t read the instructions. There is a timeout feature so that when the loco is unadressed by DCC packets, the sound turns off - so you don’t have a yard ful of noisy engines just sitting there. This can be disabled or changed to a different value. That’s why there’s no multiple-click shutdown like QSI, the decoder does it for you.
I guess people should stay away from QSI, Soundtraxx, and ESU decoders too because they have problems programming them. Except I don’t have any issues with my Zephyr in programming QSI and ESU, and I doubt any of the others, but I don’t have any yet, and I’m not using one of those boosters. It’s just like anythign else int he world - sound decoders add a whole new world of complexity because there are so many things that can be adjusted. A regular decoder, you might play around with 5 or 6 CV values to set it up. A sound decoder has dozens to adjust for optimal performance. A good reason to use Decoder Pro. ANd for some reason people see to be afraid of using programming on the main, or ops mode programming. Just about all modern decoders support it, and since program commands are addressed to a specfici decoder address, it’s not goign to reprogram all your locos. Plus it works with those decoders that supposedly need a booster for the program track
Before this forum changed…I remember that there were a few members that owned T-55 units. Might be helpful if they posted feedback regarding their locomotives.
Perhaps this company may have some issues with their new units, I don’t know. But let’s not forget that BLI had some problems in the beginnig as well. Yet, their management and customer service worked diligently to resolve customer problems.
I’m assuming that the management producing T-55 are concerned as well and are likely working their brows to correct problems. Hopefully they’ll get the issues ironed out soon.
In starting a thread like this it would have been very helpful if
“SPECIFIC” real life examples of problems were listed.
The steps customers took to have the problems resolved. (Did he fix it it? Did he call the company and then ship the unit back?, etc)
If the company successfully resolved the problems or left the customer hanging.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think Tower55 are using the new Digitrax SoundFX decoders.
These are new technology and Digitrax doesn’t have a good track record of getting it right first time (I’m not flaming Digitrax - I’m a big fan of some of their products), but they take some time to get it right. Just take a look at the Tony’s Train Exchange website and see whats been happening with the slow release of information about these decoders, and the way it isn’t going a smoothly as they would like.
To flame a new manufacturer for no good reason isn’t on. Like other have said, lets hear from people who have bought the locos and whether they had had problems, and what Tower55 have done about those before we go round flaming them.
I wouldn’t know weather your view on Overland/T55’s business practices are correct or not ,but i have to say that i run 3 T55 ES44ACs at the moment, and have a further 2 on order, none have missed a beat, and their customer service is second to none, regards Clive.PS gaining the rights to copy costs a great deal of money,so good luck to them, how many other manufactures do you know that bring out a model of a prototype within 2 years.
What a great way to start a Saturday morning. This one woke me up quicker than hot coffee. first of all, I seldom take advice seriously from someone who can’t spell or do not check their use of the English language. (love the new repeated spelling of diecast.)
Second, this post seems like a personal attack on Overland. I have some Overland diesels from the 80’s and 90’s that still run, and for the most part are the equal or superior to the plastic of today. As others have said, including Curt (good to see you here too), facts don’t support the allegations.
Did you happen to notice the date of the original post? It was a long-gone troll that started that thread. Why Oke had to revive a 2 year old thread; that I don’t understand.
Fellas…it’s an oft-repeated process these weekends. Think about it. If a troll started the thread, and then it is revived with a relative newcomer… it’s a
