STB authorizes Mineral Range to operate Upper Michigan line

That’s great news for an area that is, as I’ve heard, very economically depressed, impoverished, and lacking employment.

The question begs why isn’t the LS&I doing all this?

Expansion of rails in the UP! Too bad we cant bring the copper country limited back!

Jim Norton- this doesn’t really fit in with the LS&I’s operating plan. The revenue will amount to 10-15 carloads of copper / silver per day vs 6 trains per shift on the LS&I. The only non-iron ore customer on the LS&I is an LP Gas dealer which is only a couple of miles from the yard and served by the yard job.
