Steam engine electrical connector

I have track powered steam engines from AML ( K-4 Pacific). USA Trains (Hudson) and LGB (Mikado). All have an electrical connector between the engine and tender. I find it is relatively easy to insert the connectors but nearly impossible to remove them. They fit tightly and there is little to grab onto when removing them. I am looking for ideas here. One thought was to coat the outside of the plug with a grease that would not harm the plastic. Help please.

My AML K4 was a bit tricky at first… I filled all the socket cavities with LaBelle teflon grease and that helped a lot. Also, remember to be sure you have depressed the “catch” fully, you really have to get your fingers way up on it to be able to squeeze it enough to release it.
