Steam generators on UP E8s

I recently purchased a Proto 2000 E8(A&B) in UP colours, but lettered and numbered for Rock Island. The models are fitted with double steam generators.

I know the Rock Island obtained these units from UP and I am putting them back as UP.

Are the models correct with two steam generators and if so, when were they fitted?

If they were not fitted from new, or shortly afterwards,I will need to replace them with single generators as I model the steam to diesel transition period.

I’d check with the Rock Island Historical/Technical Society:

or the Union Pacific Historical Society:

As built they did not incorporate duel steam generators, RI installed these upon purchase in the late sixties for Chicago commute duty and to protect the remaining long distance passenger runs, caution, some recieved Cummings head end generators, the duel exhaust stacks could cause confusion, C&NW also favored this conversion.

Thanks for the info. I suspected that the double generators were a later addition.

Looks like I will have to do some alterations!
