I would like to know where I can obtain steam loco parts drawings. Mainly feedwater heaters, air compressors, valve gears and other parts not made by the original loco builders. Also steam loco drawings for ALCO. It seems I come up to a brick wall on this. Can someone put me on the right track? It would be a blessing!
Did you try looking through the magazine index on this site? It can point you toward at least a publication that has what you need. If there is an drawing in one of the magazines listed, a back issue might be available. There is also Kalmbach’s Steam Cyclopedia, which is full of steam engine drawings. Old editions of the Locomotive Cyclopedia and similar publications might have some helpful information. The old Cyclopedias are very expensive and rare, but might be found at university libraries that had strong engineering programs during the steam era. However, the “Train Shed Cyclopedias” issued by Newton K. Gregg, which are reprints of sections of the old Cyclopedias can be had for a reasonable price.
