Well I just came home with a new Paragon C&O 2-10-4. I found out that you need to grease the worm gear before use. GRRRRRR! I don’t exactly live around the corner from a store, so live and learn. I have loco oil but not grease. Anyway can someone please point me in the right direction as to what plastic compatible grease I should be looking for? This is my first steamer and I would like to get off to a good start. Once again thanks.
Brent, I picked up the whole shebang in one neat little package from Woodland Scenics calles Hob-E-Lube. It’s a nice little 7 pack of everything. It even has directions for when and where to put the lubes. And yes, it includes the greases…And a note to self. Lube EVERTHING before running a new engine. That little bugger could have sat upon a shelf for some time before you got it. New to you may not necessarily be new. Jay
Any white lithium grease should be good, and certainly the previous advice is impeccable. However, for now, use a drop of Dextron III auto-transmission fluid while you look for a suitable lube. Remember, too, that there is such a thing as O-ring lube for water filters and such…white grease. Plumbing stores will have it if you have no LHS and must otherwise pay for shipping.
