steam locos

Big Boy. The KING of steam.

C.P.R. 4-8-4 3100 “K” Northern, this is REAL locomotive.

I have seen quite a few steam locos in my time. My father helped restore the K4 here in Altoona so when visited Steam Town in Stranton Pa we were able to get up close and inside one of the steam locos there. They had the K4 still there for restoration. The engine we were able to get inside was a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy. It absolutely was the biggest thing I ever saw. The sheer size of it can’t be put into words. No doubt it is #1 closely followed by the hugh 3 unit 8500 Gas “Big Blow” Turbines[:D]

4-6-2 Streamline PACIFIC
4-6-4 Streamline HUDSON
4-4-4 Jubilee
but gee, there’s the SHAY, The Climax, The Heisler logging engines

Porter Switchers, Old Timers, and Tank engines for the yards

NSWR AD60 Beyer Garratt 4-8-4-4-8-4http://www.lloydsmodelrail.com.au/footplate/Zframefpm.html

so many to choose from. Guess I just like Steam Engines

NYC 4-8-4 Niagara.

The C&O T-1 2-10-4, They lugged 160 car, 13,500 ton coal trains from the Ohio river straight through to Toledo, and they performed this service for more than 20 years, plus their drawbar HP equalled some of the articulated locomotives of the day, pretty impressive, I"d say.

Mac

BIG BOY!
big UP and ATSF locos, though I love the Pennsy S1… PRR had some great designs

I’m really a diesel guy, but i have a soft spot for Big Boys.

i like the Beyer Garratt AD60 class built for the NSWGR maily because they were one of the most impressive locos in australia-and the most powerful

The B&O EM-1.If I was a zillionaire,I’d have one made.

I see the SP Cab-Forward is left off these steam polls once again! Is this the Rodney Dangerfield of steam locomotives? No Respect! No Respect I tell ya! [:D]

I know exactly what your talking about. SteamTown in Scranton has a Big Boy on Display, it took two pictures to get it all. Man that was a great day, Thats why i went back two years later!

Like I’ve said before:
WOODBURNING AMERICAN STANDARD!! [:D]

Roger hit the nail on the head for me! Nothing beats the look of a NKP-modified USRA light Mike!

I’m a Pennsy steam fan, and even then I probably can’t nail down one. Of course the K4 is on the short list. I liked the look of the T1 (4-4-4-4), too. For some reason, those slow, lumbering 2-10-0s were also on the list of my favorites. 8mph up the hill from Altoona to Gallitzin, chugging, billowing smoke and panting, but their did the job, on both ends of the train. But then again, I have a soft spot for just about anything from the world of steam.

I second rogerhensley on this one, the 2-8-2 Mikado is my favorite. I’m an East Broad Top fan and love the their 3’ gauge mikes.

C&O H-8 Allegheny! The Big Boy isn’t the king in the east. N&W and B&O had some fantastic articulated steam engines also.

I love any of the steam streamliners.
The 20th Century Drefus
Empire State Express
Etc.

What happened to the Sierra 2-6-6-2, The biggest little engine to fit in tight corners on big Mountains?

My favorite is and always will be the Great Northen class M 2-6-8-0 though the class N3 2-8-8-0 runs a close 2nd.
Have both ,The M3 from Challenger Models and the N3 from Tenshodo
In the non-articulated Locomotives would love to have one of the NW 4-8-0s…just love their looks.
