Steam track side/cab 33-1/3 sound tracks info request

Hi Friends,

For years, I have been trying to find a copy of a record my father use to play at Christmas time. It was a trackside sound recording of a last steam run on Christmas Eve coming to a crew change stop at a grade crossing with a church playing ‘Silent Night’’ on it’s bells in the background. I remember the jacket saying that diesels would run the next time. There is great whistle and driver sound as the freight (NW I think) works it’s way up grade.

The album was probably pressed late '50’s/early 60’s. Do’es this sound familier to anyone? Anyone recall the album name or track title. Any help is appreciated,

Cheers,
Jeff
‘Take the train if you can’

Jeff: I don’t know the particular record, but it sounds like a production from O.Winston Link. Try that in your search engine.

Dave,
A heart felt thank you!

I have Winston’s drive-in print of N&W 1242 across from my desk and had no idea he made recordings, much less video’s. A little searching resulted in a great find after your help.

The album is “The Fading Giant (vol-2)” and we’re listening to N&W Class J 603 pit stop at Rural Retreat Station.

Thanks again David, I’ve found my Christmas gift!!..
Cheers, Jeff

Jeff: If you want a warm weather record as a companion, try “2nd Pigeon and the Mockingbird”. The mockingbird is real; 2nd pigeon is a train.
