The big news is that White Pass & Yukon Route will be running their steam Rotary No. 1 in early 2011.

With that in mind, I added my story, “Steam up the Rotary!,” to my web magazine, Railroad Glory Days.

Would the same boiler inspection and maintence requirements the Feds apply to steam locomotives also apply to a steam rotary? I would think so but don’t know that as a fact.

Thank you very much for your kind words regarding my story/pictures.

Dakguy, I was hoping that a real expert would address your question, but since none have: it is my understanding that the ICC - FRA rules do not apply to a non-locomotive. That was my understanding regarding the event in 1976, and apparently it is still the case.
