The big news is that White Pass & Yukon Route will be running their steam Rotary No. 1 in early 2011.
With that in mind, I added my story, “Steam up the Rotary!,” to my web magazine, Railroad Glory Days.

Thanks for posting it. What a grand(e) occasion that must have been. And already quite long ago. [:(]

Would the same boiler inspection and maintence requirements the Feds apply to steam locomotives also apply to a steam rotary? I would think so but don’t know that as a fact.
Glen;
Again, a very interesting posting! [bow]
Your photo essays of Colorado are always enjoyable.[tup] [tup]
Thanks for sharing them here.[8D]
Crandell and Sam,
Thank you very much for your kind words regarding my story/pictures.
Dakguy, I was hoping that a real expert would address your question, but since none have: it is my understanding that the ICC - FRA rules do not apply to a non-locomotive. That was my understanding regarding the event in 1976, and apparently it is still the case.

Two years after witnessing Rotary OM in action, I was back to check out the Cumbres & Toltec’s other rotary. See A rotary under the sun.
