Forgive me for this off topic post, but I know that many railfans also have a soft spot for steamboats, and this is a rare oppourtunity.
The New Orleans Steamboat Company is taking their signature vessel the NATCHEZ on an upriver tramping trip for the next few weeks. They are currently in Louisville, and will continue to travel downriver for the next couple of weeks to New Orleans. All proceeds go to benefit hurricane recovery efforts in New Orleans. You will also be helping the New Orleans based crew to be able to get back on their feet once they return home.
The NATCHEZ is an authentic steam-powered paddlewheel boat built in 1975 and designed by Louisville Kentucky’s own Alan Bates. The boat hasn’t been on the Ohio river since 1982, and this may be the last time for another 20+ years.
