Steamtown Superintendent Kip Hagen dies
We as a family had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hagen years ago and what is surprising with hindsight was the fact that he took the initiative, and the time, to show us around. And we showed no obvious symptoms of “foaming” at the time. Made a special visit more so.
At least ten years ago Steamtown hosted a seminar detailing the new FRA regs for steam locomotives. Due to a miscommunication I did not attend and the next time I saw Mr. Hagen I told him this story. He had his office mail a copy of the new regs to me. The number of people who would take the time to do something like this is few and is now one fewer. Yes, he will be missed.
He will be missed.
He will be missed.
He will be missed.

A number of years ago I led an official delegation from the City of Toronto studying “state of the art” rail museum practices (with a view to planning the current Toronto Railway Heritage Centre), and Steamtown was high on the list. Mr. Hagen was a kind, gracious and enthusiastic host, allowing us to view virtually every aspect of their extensive operation and patiently answering our questions. All members of our group remember him with respect and gratitude. He will be missed.
Having attended many RailFests , I was amazed how well Kip organized these events at Steamtown. He was a true supporter of steam and railroading which was displayed at Steamtown ! In the railroad community, we will all miss Kip as a true gentlemen and outstanding member of his community ! God Bless You Kip

I’m months behind on my weekly TRAIN’s emails, so my belated condolences to family and Steamtown staff!
