Steinbrenner, author of definitive ALCO book, dies at 79
Richard contacted me for some photos of Australian-built Alco locomotives for his book, which I was happy to provide. The book is an excellent history of Alco and I was able to review it for a local industry magazine. I didn’t think it was more than ten years ago… The only deficiency in the book was a relative lack of information on Alco export steam locomotives, compared to the coverage of export diesel locomotives. The steam locomotives in China were greatly infuenced by Alco designs, the most numerous class being a 1918 Alco Mikado.
I’ll miss him and his work, but I’ll continue to use his excellent book as a reference.
