Step by step "Tree Technique"

Here are the promised week end pictures of my technique for making deciduous trees The skewer is cut in half and the blunt end is sharpened with a pencil sharpener. stain is poured into a paint roller trough, and all the half skewers are stained in mass. The stained skewers are then laid on a screen to dry.The filter is cut into various width strips, and then cut into rough circles. The layers of each circle are then separated. About 30 circles are layed out in rows. A circle of glue is poured around the perimeter, about 1/4 inch from the edge, so that no glue will show when green foam is then sprinkled on. Excess foam can then be shaken off. A 3in. deep scrap piece of 3 in. thick styrofoam is pre-drilled with holes into which the skewer “tree trunks” are pressed. Foam covered circles and then pressed down to for layers of foliage. The top of the skewer caan be nipped off, and a clump of foliage added to the top.

Thanks for taking the time to give us a demo.

Nice work. Really a nice look on the final.

Pretty slick, and fast too, I’m sure you can use any sponge or similar material like the filter, the technique is great, thanks.

Thanks for sharing with us. Most of my trees are factory-made, and even though I alter them quite a bit before installing them, I often feel that my trees are less than ideal. I’ll look forward to trying your technique. Cheers.

I’m getting ready to get into tree building mode again…I’m going to try this…thanks.
