Great post & I also agree with the yarmulke comment. I thought this was a board to discuss trains. I am sure their are zillions of boards to discuss religion if one chooses to speak about that subject rather then trains. [:o)]
One thing I learned while working for the UP, is that Steve Lee is one of the most straight up and honest people I’ve ever met. If Steve said they’re going to stop fan excersions, they probably will. [:O][:O][:(!][:(!][V][V][banghead][censored][censored][sigh]
it is a slur against members of a certain religion that he sees as the controllers of his destiny who are domiciled in the ivory towers of Wall St NYC. In my opinion it was posted in very bad taste [:(][:(]

I had many dealings with the UPRR during my career. I met UPRR personnel who were posted in NYC, SF, Sea, LAX, Omaha & I always found them to speak of the UPRR with as much pride as they would have for their own family. [:D][:D]
At one time, the UP steam program was 100% of the railroad’s public relations effort. Lately, however, I’ve seen television ads on a news channel so the company has obviously decided to broaden its appeal. Maybe they could put the engines at the point of some freight runs. The day after riding behind the 611 in 1986, I saw it hammering the rails through Cordele, GA as it pulled a long freight southward. I had heard a steam whistle from inside my in-laws home two blocks from the tracks. I ran outside to the street just in time to see the 611 go over the grade crossing between the trees. Now that was quite a sight! I bet a lot of other people had the same impression.
