Stewart Alco century 628

I just got a new Stewart Alco Century 628 on E Bay. It looks great. However I put it on the track and fired it up on my DC track. Oh dear. It doesn’t move. I removed the shell to see what was happening. The motor runs and the lights go on, but no movement. Now this is the first Stewart I have ever owned and the mechanics sure look different than any other locos I have.

So before I go about taking it apart does anyone have any suggestions to offer as to what I should look for first. I realize this could be an old stock item and may have sat for a long time never having been used. Another unusual find. The 8 pin DCC plug is on the underside of the circuit board??? I’ve never seen that before. How does one install a decoder in it? There doesn’t look like there’s any room for one there. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

I had the same problem. The dog bone/u joint is loose. You need to replace the shaft.

Stewart was offering a replacement set of parts for these a while back. Maybe a call to them is in order.

Ok thanks. I’ll give them a call when I get a chance.
