Stewart AS-16 Conversion

I am trying to convert my AS-16 to an SW switcher. Does anyone know if athearn makes any SW trucks that would fit the stewart AS-16 chassis?

It is your model…but what you proposed does not match any prototype. The AS-16 is a model of Baldwin’s competitor to Alco’s RS3 and EMD’s GP7/9. The SW is an EMD switcher, which is much shorter, with an entirely different body, than an AS-16. What you are asking is similar to modifying a Kenworth 3 axle dump truck into a Toyota ½ ton pick up truck.

Take a look at the models in the links on this page:

It depends on the vintage of the your AS16. If you have an early one, then Athearn BB trucks can be adapted. If you have a middle vintage, Kato trucks might be a better bet. For the latest vintage, the Bowser/Stewart Baldwin Switcher trucks might be the route to take.

Perhaps you are confusing the somewhat common rebuilding done where Baldwin DS and VO series switchers were re-engined with EMD prime movers, and usually had their hoods replaced because the Baldwin hoods were too low for the EMD engines. Usually the cab, trucks, and walkways were retained, making for interesting look. I’m not aware of a road switcher like an AS16 being turned into an EMD SW switcher.
