are the Stewart model loco’s of decent quality [running gear, etc.]? looking to purchase my 1st Stewart. thanks, mike.
I have 4 of the F7s. Outstanding runners and good parts support from Bowser.
My Stewart F3s and U25s are the best runners I have
Top tier stuff. Go for it.
I can only speak for the F units, they were manufactured by KATO and run like it too - like Swiss watches. The F unit shells were state of the art when they came out in the late 1980’s but since the Genesis F were produced, many turn up their noses at the Stewart. IMO, other than the mold lines on the sides of the noses, the Stewart F’s look quite good, although they do not have the etched metal air grills etc, the plastic molded on grills look quite good and have a lot of depth and detail. I still have 10 F7’s (D&RGW) which amount to 5 F7AB sets and plan on keeping them to run with my Genesis and P2K F’s.
I’ll also recommend the Stewart’s…quiet, smooth runner’s. I only run DC though. [Y] [Y]
Take Care! [:D]

DC-DCC doesn’t matter, My Stewart lopcos are the best runners I have would buy more if the produced more in N.P. Livery!
I have an Ajin built Stewart S12, and it runs smooth and quiet as can be! It’s also extremely reliable, and has never needed any maintenance outside of the occasional cleaning and oiling. Almost takes the fun out of it!
I used the frame, motor, and running gear from a Stewart Baldwin AS-16 to power this AHM/Rivarossi C-Liner for a friend. I’m told that the motor is from Athearn, and it’s strong and reliable, if not as refined as the F-unit drives.
The sideframes and lift rings are from Detail Associates and the other modifications were done wire and sheet styrene. Paint and decals are from SMP.

I’ve got a Stewart F7B I got a few years back on e-Bay. It’s a good, reasonably quiet runner, very good at slow speeds. Mine is supposed to be in the CN livery but they went a little overboard on the stripes…
