Thanks for all the help but I can’t find, and I HAVE USED ALL THE RESOURCES LISTED, AC,ANALOG,VOLTMETER(0-20) AMPMETER (0-5). I’ve searshed th hold world over but still can’t fiind true love. N No that is something else. Really, we folks down her spell it ampmeter .I just checked with the EE folks down in RALEIGH YOU KNOW NCSU. Pleas a little more help!!

Ellis: Kurt is right. I have two of them and it’s nice to be able to read precise amps/volts. I never trusted the old handle method. Lionel made these around yr 2000; no longer being made. But you could put a “save search” on E-bay. I’m sure one or two will show up once in a while. At the time I bought mine (from Charles Ro) they were about $89.95.

Lets see if we can get you to an array of inexpensive Analog AC Panel Meters:
Google “Prime Technology”. When page comes up click on “Prime Technology” , the first listing.
Then click on “SHURITE” in the heading.
Then click on “Analog Meters–Standard Accuracy”.
Then click on the “850 Series” 2-1/2" barrel type meters[pictures shown].
Then scroll down thru the DC meters, milliamp meters, etc, until you see the large listing of AC amp and volt meters.
A couple of Shurite Meter suggestions:
Voltmeter 0-25 Vac, part#8412z
Ammeter 0-15 Aac, part #8508z
Both cost in the $21-23 range each.

Give either of them Shurite part #s and they will direct you to the right place. I ordered thru Raleigh, N.C. but the meters came from Texas [voltmeters backordered].

Have you tried an auto store.Automotive ammeters and volt meters will work and can usually be picked up for a reasonable price.You would have to cut holes to mount them unless you want to use the below dash panel.These are very reliable and come with all intructions on how to install them.

Are they selling AC meters for automobiles? I’m skeptical about that.
NAPA, Auto Zone,etc, only sell DC Meters which would have to be modified with a “bridge rectifier” as Bob Nelson outlined in the other Meter thread.
It is not that difficult to call, fax or e-mail Alllied Electronics or other distributors and get inexpensive AC Panel meters[Shurite and Simpson are two brands] which have a +/- accuracy variance of 2%-5% depending on the brand. They are plenty precise for monitoring Toy Train power districts. Virtually 100% of the meters are produced in the Far East/Pacific Rim countries along with China and the Indian sub-continent.
When I imported and sold DER 670 model meters, they were distributed from New Zealand and made in Taiwan from Japanese components. Not difficult to find an overseas source but 500 unit minimums per specification are a $ problem unless you are really into the meter business.
